The start of the month began with the second super series race of the season, Llanelli. The lead up to the race wasn’t ideal. The night before the race I realized two of my chainring bolts out of 5 were missing therefore I was panicking around to find replacements. Frustratingly they were specialized S works bolts, therefore I couldn’t find any and had to use some industrial zip ties to secure it on to the bike.
The swim wasn't greatest however neither the worst. It started with a beach start, in which you had to run and dive into the water. I came out around 8th however I probably could have done slightly better as my goggles fell off when diving into the water. The bike was decent as I managed to get in a breakaway pack of around 6 people .We managed to stay away by doing a pace line and had around 20-25 seconds going into transition. The run on the other hand was dreadful, for some reason I just didn’t have the legs therefore finished 4th overall and 3rd in youth B which wasn’t the result I was looking for.
I have however learned to go into a detailed bike check before races so fingers crossed the same thing won't happen again! The next race of the month was the Blenheim Palace triathlon. This was simply a local mass participation triathlon however I managed to secure a win in the sprint distance and also got 3rd in the sprint relay with myself, my brother and my dad.
On another positive note I managed to do a double track session this month for the first time this year since my knee injury which is great. I have also been selected to race in the British team at an ETU Junior Cup in the Netherlands next month which I am really looking forward too, as it will be my first experience racing abroad.
Overall May wasn’t my best month however neither was it the worst. I have definitely learnt lots to take away and improve.
