Overall my winter training this year hasn’t gone too badly. It started on a low in September when I suffered a knee injury which prevented me from any serious running for 3 months. In those months I was still allowed to bike and swimming , however instead of running I was given several physio exercises to strengthen the area around the knee enabling me to recover and get back to running training more quickly. I gradually started running again in December with short slow runs which progressed to longer more tempo types runs over the month. In the middle of January finally I  was able to start track running again which was  a relief as it means I can finally get some speed into my legs, hopefully just in time before the season starts!

I haven't sadly done that many races this winter, mainly due to my knee as i was obviously not allowed to do cross country, in which i would usually do 5-6 races over the winter period.Instead ,to substitute the running i tried to do a Cyclo-cross race which sadly didn't go to plan.I no longer own a Cylco-cross bike therefore had to borrow one for the race, however the back wheels free-hub broke halfway through the race leaving me with a DNF. I still hope next season as it really helps in the technical aspect of cycling and also for base fitness in the winter.

In general I have felt my swimming and biking have both progressed over the winter period and I made a good improvement in my 400m freestyle time. I am very excited for the start of the triathlon season  once again. I will most likely be doing several small races related to triathlon such as duathlons  to try to get my running back up to form, and also to get used to racing again before the big races start.

Looking back overall my winter training hasn’t been the worst neither the best , however all I can really do now is look forward to the new season and focus on the up and coming races.
